The Douglas Rowe and Dian Kolev Memorial Scholarship Fund exists to honor the memory of two amazing individuals who were the heart of our organization and are deeply missed.
Douglas Rowe founded Michigan Academy of Gymnastics in 1978 and for the next 35 years he made it his mission to give back to the sport. As an owner and coach, he enriched the lives of the gymnasts that passed through our doors by sharing his love for gymnastics and providing them with a strong role model. Doug truly led by example.
Dian Kolev was the Head Coach for the Michigan Academy of Gymnastics Men’s program. He
and Doug were united by their love of the sport, and they worked together for many years. Dian poured himself into the team. His boys were family to him and he coached them with passion and integrity.
Doug and Dian were both honest and well respected coaches and friends. They helped instill
positive and lasting character traits in their gymnasts. Skills that would help them significantly in life, even after they stopped competing. Both coaches exemplified Michigan Academy’s mission to make a positive difference in the lives of our students.
The Douglas Rowe and Dian Kolev Memorial Scholarship Fund financially assists gymnasts
who are training for and competing in the Special Olympics as well as graduating seniors who will be attending college. We hope to expand the scholarship in the future, to include current Michigan Academy of Gymnastics families that exhibit a strong commitment to the program and have a financial need.
Thank you for considering a donation to our Scholarship Fund. Your generous support
continues Doug and Dian’s mission by providing opportunities for our gymnasts’ to fulfill
their dreams, and it keeps their memories alive in our hearts.
